Biography
Puman is a little sweet from Yunnan, a group that blends five different ethnic groups from this culturally rich region at the crossroads of Tibet, Laos and Burma. When Puman plays, it's always a party, and lots of dancing !
The guys take their inspiration from the traditional melodies of the Bulang, Wa and Yi peoples, and add a reggae sauce to the good-natured atmosphere, where it's hard not to get caught up. The sounds are astonishing (notably with the diversity of wind instruments, and certain string instruments such as the sanxian or bulangding) but in a framework familiar to a European audience, since reggae is not only mastered but also reinvented.
Tracks range from invitations to forget daily worries for a while and enjoy a merry romp with friends (Three Step Dance), to tales of caravanners and brigands on the tea road (Mountain Caravan), to odes to long time as on Smoking Pipe.
Their first album has been a great success, with 40M+ streams to date, a #1 on the vinyl chart (Juno Vinyl Dub Charts), with the track B'lang Beauty and its remix by DJ DSK, leading to a collaboration with L'Entourloop. With 10k listens/month on Spotify, they already enjoy a small presence in Europe, and are gearing up to release their second album internationally in spring 2025 ahead of a European tour kicking off at Les Escales festival.
