Biography

Straight from the streets, the music of Les Fanflures Brass Band is a concentrate of explosive, communicative energy, where brass, percussion and vocals reign with pride.

Blending the groove of New Orleans Funk, the power of Hip Hop and the finesse of Jazz - on stage or in street parades, accompanied or not by dancers - the 7 Toulousans feverishly draw all audiences into their contagious madness.

In 2013, after spending 3 months in New Orleans, Gabriel Ray (trombonist and singer) returned with his head and trombone loaded with the sound of local brass bands, Jazz or Funk and more... In 2015, he decided to create an authentic French-style New Orleans brass band (Hot 8, Rebirth, Treme), with French/English vocals and his own personal musical influences. The brass band is made up of trombone, trumpet, saxophone, snare drum, bass drum and sub-bassophone. To create this music, and bring the spirit of New Orleans to the stage, they drew their inspiration from the “second line”, the Sunday parade and special occasions, an essential tradition in the musical culture of African-Americans in New Orleans. Here, life's events are celebrated and mourned. It is danced, played and lived with fervor.

Following the recording of their first album (2016) “DANS TA FACE!”, on which the group took its first steps in composition, inspired by the second line tradition of New Orleans, the group returned in full for a 5-week self-managed musical trip to New Orleans, collaborating with local brass bands in concerts and masterclasses.
Following this experience, the Fanflures Brass Band create their musical fusion by covering “Angela” by the Saian Supa Crew, which meets with some success (radio airplay, +100k spotify listens). In 2018 they continue to work this Jazz Funk New Orleans and Musiques actuelles fusion to culminate in a new album “Rumeur D'or” released in September 2020. In parallel, they have been launching the annual Toulouse parade “Dans Ta Face!” since 2017 worked into a street show for Aurillac.

In 2018 the band entered a stage residency for a first version of the concert staged at the RIO GRANDE (montauban). A second version is planned for 2021 with a residency featuring the new album “Rumeur d'Or”.
