Biography
Lyricson is a talented singer and artist from the African diaspora. Born in Guinea in 1979, he began his musical journey there. In the late 1990s, he left his home country to move to Liberia. Later, with his father, he went into exile in Boston (USA). After spending a few years with an uncle in North Carolina, at the age of 15, he moved in with a friend, where he discovered Rastafarianism. This is when he began singing regularly, spending his days between playgrounds and rehearsal studios, before joining his father in Martinique, where he recorded his first tracks.
As a young father, this cosmopolitan artist returned to the United States to study for two years, before moving to Europe. Upon arriving in Paris, he began working with his cousin Pyroman, who was part of the circle around Assassin.
In 2000, the young singer with an eclectic style entered the French music scene with the track “Seeking for a Better Future” on the compilation “Quality Streetz”, as well as a performance on Assassin’s album “Touche d’espoir.” During this same period, he had a decisive encounter in his career with Manu Chao, who invited him to join an international tour. Under the name Bidji, he performed on the “Radio Bemba Sound System” tour.
After returning from the tour, Lyricson established himself as an international artist and began performing across France, sometimes accompanied by Mafia & Fluxy.
In 2001, he released “Bad Load,” his first reggae hit, featured on the compilation “Reggae Dream.” In 2002, Manu Chao’s live album and DVD “Radio Bemba Sound System” were released, later reissued several times and selling millions of copies worldwide.
In 2003, he contributed to the album “Raval ta joie” by the Barcelona-based collective 08001. That same year, he appeared on the track “Monnaie” by Dub Inc., performing with them at several concerts. He was also featured (at the invitation of rapper Iris) on an EP alongside Iris, Sept, and Flynt, over productions by Para One.
In 2004, after numerous performances and collaborations, he released his debut album “Born to Go High,” partly recorded in Jamaica, featuring artists such as MC Jean Gab’1. He also appeared on Passi’s compilation “Dis l’heure 2 Ragga” with the track “This Is My Way.”
In 2007, his second album “Keep the Faith” was released, with several tracks issued on vinyl. In 2008, he recorded “Toucher mes rêves,” featured on the debut album of Tunisiano from the group Sniper. In 2009, Rockin’ Squat, founding member of Assassin, brought him along on the group’s new tour.
At the same time, he performed solo across South America, West Africa, and Europe. He then released his third album “Messages,” collaborating with both French and Jamaican composers and producers, including Steven Stanley (Grace Jones, Sean Paul…), who mixed several tracks at Tuff Gong, Bob Marley’s studio. A few months after its release, the album received a Web Reggae Award, organized by Reggae.fr.
In 2012, he recorded the track “Warrior” on the latest album by Afu-Ra, an American rapper from the Gang Starr Foundation. That same year, he released “Love Therapy,” a 12-track album blending soul, reggae, and R&B. Compared to his previous album “Fearless,” he softened his high-energy flows. To achieve this, Lyricson collaborated with composers and performers from various backgrounds, resulting in a diverse project entirely produced and mixed by DJ Redeyes at RKF Studio. Jamaican artist Veron “Koxx” Dinnal (Suprême NTM, Tonton David, Diam’s, Alpha Blondy…) contributed vocals on several tracks. The album features only a few collaborations, exclusively with female artists: Martinika Karen on “Birds in the Sky” and Canadian singer Shalli on “Can’t Let You Go.”
In 2015, he continued his rise by founding his own label, Royal Music, and releasing “Year of the Don,” his seventh album, a dancehall project featuring Popcaan and Gappy Ranks. The following year, he recorded the track “Over” on Kool Shen’s album “Sur le fil du rasoir.”
In 2017, he returned to the spotlight with the album “Revolution Time Again,” produced by Digital Cut and Undisputed Records, much to the delight of his fans.
Lyricson is a humble and dignified man who, throughout his extensive career, has established himself in the reggae scene with wisdom and kindness. His determination has elevated him to the rank of “King.”
In 2018, he celebrated 20 years of his career in Barcelona with the release of his EP “Get Ready,” featuring eight tracks with reggae and new roots influences. Produced by United Vibes and Royal Music, the EP reflects his maturity. From the second track, “Reggae Ambassada,” listeners are immersed in a powerful reggae anthem, where Lyricson expresses loyalty and conviction in his beliefs. On the track “Anywhere,” he invites Chezidek to deliver a strong, hopeful message dedicated to a committed youth.
In 2024, he released “African Dream,” produced by Royal Music, an album celebrating African unity and true independence.
