Born in 1995, L.Teez is a Montreal singer-songwriter whose childhood was steeped in music. His training began at the FACE School of Fine Arts, where he studied trombone and trumpet, before devoting himself to singing and taking up rap at the age of 14. Strongly influenced by hip-hop in his teens, his passion for music later led him to appreciate and draw inspiration from the masters of classical jazz. His formative years at school and early musical influences led him to compose, an activity he found to cope with the ups and downs of his family and personal circumstances.
In 2012, with the emergence of “new school” hip-hop, he began his foray into songwriting. Authentic and deeply personal, his lyrics speak to his vision and experiences in the world around him. As his style took shape, L. Teez established himself on the underground music circuit, getting noticed at venues like the Park and CFC Club. He quickly discovered his love for the stage. His first breakout performances included Divan Orange in 2013, then MEG Festival. In 2016, he collaborated with Canadian producers Hug Signori and Jay Century (Fouki, Kallitechnis, Nate Husser) on his original tracks. He subsequently traveled to France to perform at the Festival de la Tartine in Chambéry, Bordeaux and Marmande, the Paris Music Festival and the MIL Festival in Lisbon.
In summer 2018, he opened for Guts Live and Black Star at the esteemed Vienne Jazz Festival in France. He also opened for Earth, Wind and Fire at the legendary Olympia venue in Paris. He released his first project, the Half Full EP, on the Musjomusic label distributed by Believe Digital in September 2018, earning him several mentions in Quebec media. Followed by a mini-tour in Tokyo at the Shibuya Showcase Festival, Zandari Festa in Seoul and Busan in South Korea. In summer 2019, he performs at the Festival d'Été de Québec, the Festival Mode & Design de Montréal and the 40th Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. In winter 2020, he signed with Hydrophonik Records in support of his second EP, The Index to My Inner Thoughts, released in September of that year. In October 2022 he presents his debut album, Studio Blue, and plans to tour it internationally in 2023.
