Born in the Bucharest’s Gypsy Ghetto, Mahala Rai Banda is an ensemble of 10 musicians. The group’s name means “the noble band of the Ghetto” and was formed by two descendants of Taraf de Haïdouks musicians. Their music is a mixture of Romanian violin and accordion typically with bright and playful horn sections.
It is the right amount of electronic music and rock rebellion attitude, that this young Eastern generation, returns to its musical roots. The outcome of this combination is amazing! Powerful rhythmical sections and beautiful traditional voices unite with Gypsy violins, trumpets and accordions parts creating what a Balkan Oriental urban groove should be.
